Join the multi-talented screenwriter and actor, Sugith Varughese, as he draws on his 40 years of experience working in the Canadian film and television industry to discuss working on everything from indie shorts to major feature film and television series and the requirements and professional standards expected of emerging artists hoping to make the same transition.

 

Sugith Varughese, He has over 100 screen credits as an actor, currently appearing as Dr. Singh on the award-winning TV drama series Transplant on CTV in Canada and NBC in the US.  He’s known for creating the iconic characters, Mr. Mehta on Kim’s Convenience and David Paster in The Expanse among many others.  He is also an award-winning screenwriter and was the first visible minority to attend the prestigious Canadian Film Centre as a writer-director.  His short films have won numerous awards worldwide.

 

 

Moderator: Louisa Phung, She is a writer and award-winning director based in Vancouver, BC. Her film “Hope and Grace” was nominated for Best Canadian Short Film at the 2021 Regina International Film Festival and Awards. She is currently developing her first stage play “Embers of the Past” with the help of vAct’s MSG Lab and the Playwrights Theatre Centre. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked as a professional Assistant Director on shows such as Apple’s “See,” CW’s “The 100, ” and Netflix’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.”
