Have you ever thought about shooting a film in China?  Come out and hear what it takes to make a film in China from experienced filmmakers/crew that have taken the leap and have built a career overseas.
Session is in Mandarin with simultaneous English translation. Q&A to follow.

Panelists:

Yu Wang  – DP, Director: he started his movie career during the 1980s after graduating from Beijing Film Academy. Over the past decades, he has achieved great success principally as Director of Photography. He has collaborated with many prominent Chinese filmmakers, including Lou Ye, Zhang Yang, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Jia Zhangke, Li Yu, Zhang Yibai, Ann Hui, Wuershan, as well as well distinguished ASC cinematographer Richard Bowen on his directorial debut, Cinderella Moon. Yu Wang is a recipient of numerous international accolades, including Best Cinematography at 34th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2015 (The Golden Era), Best Cinematography at the 10th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2007 (The Go Master) and multiple nominations at major film festivals around the world. Yu’s work on television commercials is equally impressive.

資深中国电影摄影师，毕业于北京电影学院摄影系， 曾与中国多位知名导演合作，包括娄烨、田壮壮、贾樟柯、许鞍华、乌尔善等人。他参与摄影的第一部电影是2000年娄烨的电影《苏州河》，得到海内外业界的关注和肯定。 凭借电影《吴清源》，王昱获得2007年第10届上海国际电影节金爵奖最佳摄影，第43界台湾金马奖最佳摄影提名 ，2007年亚太电影大奖（Asia Pacific Screen Awards）最佳摄影奖提名。2014年许鞍华执导的《黄金时代》为他赢得第34届香港电影金像奖最佳摄影奖。2017年至2021年，与乌尔善导演合作， 负责《封神三部曲》的拍摄工作。电影拍摄之余，王昱也与冯小刚、贾樟柯等导演共同拍摄了大量国内外出名品牌的电视广告，包括可口可乐、联想电脑、中国移动等。

 

Shan Tam 谭芷珊 – Producer: she is a multiple award-winning producer who has been active in film and television on both sides of the Pacific. Her work has been honoured with a Sundance award, Gemini, Genie, Leos and Canadian Screen Award along with considerable international recognition.

Ms Tam has been actively producing in China for over a decade. She has shot several mini-series for American television with a large international cast and crew in this fastest growing market. A solid working relationship with Asian producers afforded Tam the opportunity to produce two feature co-productions between Canada and Hong Kong, as well as a China-Australian coproduction. Her projects have taken her to numerous countries in Europe, Asia, North and Central America, working extensively with world class crew from the East and West.

谭芷珊是一位多次获奖的监制、制片人，一直活跃在太平洋两岸的电影和电视行业中。她的作品曾获得过圣丹斯电影节（Sundance) 评审团特别大奖、Gemini、 Genie、 Leos 和加拿大银屏奖等电影节奖项，并获得了相当多的国际认可。

谭芷珊积极参与中、港及北美的电影及电视制作。 监制了两部加拿大和香港合拍的电影，及多部中港合拍片，并制作了第一部中国与澳大利亚合拍的电影，她去过很多欧美及亚洲国家拍摄, 制作团队和演员皆是国际化。

她近年监制的华语片，包括薛晓路导演的《北京遇上西雅图》和《北京遇上西雅图之不二情书》，徐克监制袁和平导演的《奇门遁甲》，张婉婷导演的《三城记》和滕华㴞导演的《上海堡垒》，与及徐峥导演的《囧妈》。

 

Van K Yang 楊崗 – Indie Filmmaker/Director: he is a Chinese-American writer, director, and cinematographer. He’s been based in China since 2008, participating in a National Geographic co-production documentary about environmental sustainability. Van’s projects/clients include lululemon, Audi, Lenovo, Alibaba, Tencent, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Destination Canada, and the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City.

 

Moderator:

Suiki Zhang is a TV Host at Fairchild TV, a Radio Host at Fairchild Radio, an events/wedding emcee, an actress, and an entrepreneur who owns a milk tea business. Graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Neuroscience and a Minor in Commerce, she has been in the media industry since 2013. Suiki has hosted in various Vancouver TV shows such as the “Hong Kong Taiwan Travelpedia”, “Missy Missy”, “Vantastic” etc. In addition, she has emceed for many large-scale events such as the “Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant”, the “Live Broadcast of Chinese New Year Countdown at Aberdeen”, and the “FTV 25th Anniversary Unforgettable Classics Singing Contest”. She has also hosted for many charitable organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Resilience BC Anti-Racism Network. Furthermore, Suiki enjoys acting in commercials and short films and she has been involved with many commercials for different companies such as Polygon Developments, Westbank Developments, Solutions Financials, the North Face, etc. Currently, Suiki is hosting in a weekly Fairchild TV program named “Snapshots”.
