As a Filipino-Canadian, Maria de la Cruz was very proud of her name growing up, as it represented a time when she embraced a Westernized culture and the idea of the model minority. It wasn’t until she started raising her own daughters that were half-Chinese and half-Filipino, did she start unpacking the colonial context that her own name signifies and the true meaning and impact of the diaspora of her own family, culture, and people from the Philippines.

Director Bio: Cindy Au Yeung is a Chinese-Canadian editor based in Vancouver, BC. She enjoys editing a diverse range of content, from narrative shorts and web series to documentaries and most recently, animation. However, documentaries remain to be her first love!
