The Vancouver Asian Film Festival is proud to be an annual community partner of the Vancouver Web Fest for the second year running. With over 200 web series, 6 workshops, 3 panels and 3 parties over 3 days, concluding with an amazing awards gala, the 2015 Vancouver Web Fest gathered together hundreds of actors, writers, filmmakers, animal stars and industry leaders in one room at the Performance Works on Granville Island.

Up close and personal with Vancouver Web Fest Executive Director and Founder Suzette Laqua.

Asked about the biggest challenge for this year, Suzette says, “The venue, the decoration and the furniture. When we decided to use Performance Works, we knew it would be difficult because of the venue configuration. In the end, we managed to bring in the signature style “red chairs” and designed a funky and fun speciality lighting lounge, supplied by Atomic 2 Innovative Lighting and Deco”.

Another big challenge was the one faced by the judges. Suzette says the judges found that, because there were so many quality web series productions, it was very difficult to decide the winners.

What does she predict the Vancouver Web Fest will look like in the future?  ”Web series and Web content will eventually became “A-track” some day”, says Suzette.  The industry will evolve and produce more podcast and vlog materials. This might be something the Vancouver Web Fest might include in the future.
